Cake Fight: Collaboration with Phiton Nguyen

My ideal art moment: One year, during an intermedia art class, I was handed a bingo

board made of cake and a note that read, "If you get a BINGO square

yell BINGO and throw a piece of cake at my face." The next thing I

knew I was sitting on a high stool at a tall table across from a bingo

rival/partner who looked like a domestic cat ready to annihilate the

unsuspecting songbird. He too had gotten a bingo board cake with a

note. My friend Phiton, the note giver, turned on a stereo and

operatic war songs boomed thick into our classroom. Ali, another

friend, stood away from us and started reading an essay about the

history of human suffering as loud as she could but the music still

made her barely audible. Meanwhile my friend Phiton got comfortable in

a chair about 15 feet away from us bingo players and put a large paper

bag over his head that he had painted a giant bulls eye on, and cut

out holes for his eyes and mouth. Our friend Ken started calling out

Bingo numbers. I had one on my cake. I cut out the piece and threw it

at Phiton's face.
